Two New Zealand tourists have found themselves in hot water in Thailand after allegedly assaulting a police officer on a popular resort island. The incident, which was captured on video and circulated widely online, has led to the revocation of their visas by Thai immigration authorities.

Brothers Hamish Day and Oscar Mattson Day are facing charges including robbery, causing physical harm to an on-duty officer, attempted bribery, and driving a motorcycle without a license. The altercation began when officer Somsak Noo-iat attempted to stop the men for speeding on their motorbikes. The situation escalated when the brothers allegedly tried to bribe the officer, then tackled him and wrestled his gun away, causing a bullet to be fired.

In the video of the incident, bystanders can be heard shouting for the men to stop as the altercation unfolded. The video quickly went viral online and was broadcast by Thai news outlets. The police chief overseeing the case has alleged that one of the brothers is a mixed martial arts fighter.

The brothers have denied all charges and declined to give a statement. The officer who was attacked is said to be recovering well from his injuries. Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat has condemned the attack, stating that such behavior is unacceptable and that officials will be tightening scrutiny of tourists who may engage in inappropriate or illegal activities.

The Day brothers could not be reached for comment, and the video does not show what led up to the altercation. The incident serves as a reminder that all visitors to Thailand are expected to adhere to local laws and regulations, and that violent behavior will not be tolerated.
