The New Jersey Attorney General’s Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control is currently reviewing the liquor licenses at properties owned by former President Donald Trump. This comes after Trump’s recent felony conviction, which has raised questions about whether it violates state law restrictions on licenses based on criminal history.
According to New Jersey state law, licenses cannot be issued to individuals under the age of 18 or to those who have been convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude. Trump was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records in a New York City court on May 30, leading to the current review of his liquor licenses.
The properties under scrutiny include Trump National Golf Club Colts Neck, Trump National Golf Club Pine Hill, and the Lamington Farm Club. This is not the first time Trump’s golf clubs have faced scrutiny, as former Attorney General Gurbir Grewal attempted to pull the liquor license from Trump National Golf Club Colts Neck in 2019 following a fatal car accident caused by an intoxicated driver leaving the club.
Ultimately, the club paid approximately $400,000 to the ABC and implemented restrictions on alcohol availability on the premises. The current review will determine the impact of Trump’s recent conviction on his liquor licenses in New Jersey.
Despite the legal challenges, Trump continues to maintain a strong level of support. It remains to be seen how this latest development will affect his business interests in the state.
