Comedian Nerine Skinner has taken the Edinburgh Festival Fringe by storm with her debut show, “The Exorcism of Liz Truss,” where she explores the challenges of separating herself from her popular parody character, Liv Struss. The character, inspired by former Prime Minister Liz Truss, gained millions of views online for its hilarious take on the politician.

Skinner, who hails from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, initially created Liv Struss after friends pointed out her resemblance to the former South West Norfolk MP. Despite the resemblance, Skinner admits she was not aware of Truss until the politician rose to national prominence.

In her show, Skinner delves into the co-dependency she developed with the character of Liv Struss and her efforts to move on from the former prime minister. Reflecting on Truss’s short-lived tenure as prime minister, Skinner humorously notes, “She only lasted the 49 days, so my career started and finished quite quickly.”

Despite the success of her parody videos, Skinner confesses to feeling intimidated by politics initially. However, she has found joy in the idea that her videos may encourage viewers to engage with real-world politics and form their opinions.

While Skinner acknowledges the intrigue and fascination surrounding Truss, she emphasizes that her portrayal of Liv Struss is meant in good fun and without malice. “I have created a character that is running parallel to her – not her. People are enjoying it, and there’s no malice,” Skinner explains.

As Skinner continues to entertain audiences with her comedic talents, it’s clear that her larger-than-life character of Liv Struss will remain a fan favorite, offering a humorous take on the world of politics.
