Scottish actor Ncuti Gatwa, known for his role in the popular series Sex Education, recently had a surprising encounter with his waxwork double at Madame Tussauds in London. The 31-year-old star was left amazed and giggling at the uncanny likeness as he came face to face with his statue.
In a video capturing the moment, Gatwa could be heard exclaiming, “Oh God. It’s the teeth. The teeth are so accurate,” as he studied the waxwork. The Doctor Who star had worked closely with artists from Madame Tussauds to ensure that his body measurements, head shape, and eye color were accurately represented in the wax figure.
The waxwork, dressed in one of Gatwa’s outfits from the series, will be on display for the public to view starting Friday. The statue is part of the new film and TV-themed zone at Madame Tussauds, which also features iconic characters like James Bond, E.T, and Millie Bobby Brown’s Enola Holmes.
Russell T Davies, the current showrunner of Doctor Who, was present for the official unveiling of Gatwa’s waxwork. The actor described the experience as “amazingly weird” and expressed his excitement at being immortalized in wax.
This is not the first time Madame Tussauds has featured a likeness of the Time Lord from Doctor Who. Previous incarnations of the Doctor, including Tom Baker and Jodie Whittaker, have also been recreated by the museum. Gatwa’s waxwork adds to the long history of Doctor Who figures at Madame Tussauds, dating back to the 1970s.
As Gatwa snapped a quick selfie with his wax doppelganger, fans of the actor and the series can now visit Madame Tussauds to see the impressive waxwork up close.
