Kenyan police have made a chilling discovery that has shocked the nation – a suspected serial killer responsible for the gruesome murders of nine women whose mutilated bodies were found in a disused quarry used as a rubbish dump.
The suspect, identified as Collins Jomaisi Khalusha, 33, was arrested at a bar while watching the Euro final early on Monday morning. Police say Khalusha confessed to killing 42 women since 2022, including his own wife.
The bodies of the victims, aged between 18 and 30, were found in various stages of decomposition at the Mukuru quarry in Nairobi. The suspect led police to his house, located just 100m from the crime scene, where they recovered items such as phones, a laptop, identity cards, and personal female clothing. A machete believed to have been used in the murders and nine sacks similar to those used to dispose of the bodies were also found.
While the authorities have confirmed nine bodies so far, local residents claim the number is higher. Joseph Waweru, involved in retrieving the bodies, stated he counted 16 severely dismembered bodies.
Police are still interrogating the suspect to determine the motive for the killings. Post-mortem examinations are ongoing, and families are urged to report missing loved ones who may have fallen victim to these crimes.
The discovery of the bodies near a police station has raised questions about police involvement in the crimes. The Independent Police Oversight Authority is investigating allegations of police connection to the murders.
This incident comes at a challenging time for Kenya’s police, following accusations of excessive force during recent protests. The resignation of the police chief and the firing of the cabinet have added to the turmoil.
The killings have reignited concerns about the safety of women in Kenya, with parallels drawn to previous cases of brutal murders. The nation is calling for swift justice and improved police response to such heinous crimes.
