The iconic green gates to Worthy Farm have swung open once again as Glastonbury Festival 2024 officially kicks off. Emily Eavis, the festival organizer, led the charge by unbolted the gates at 08:00 BST on Wednesday, marking the start of what promises to be an unforgettable five days of music, arts, and culture.
Thousands of eager festival-goers have already started streaming into the site, eager to secure the best camping spots and soak up the sunshine. With temperatures expected to reach a balmy 27C on Wednesday before cooling down later in the week, attendees are gearing up for a week of non-stop entertainment.
To celebrate the opening of the festival, a spectacular drone show is scheduled for 22:30 BST on Wednesday, followed by the traditional fireworks display. Emily Eavis, accompanied by a brass band, led the crowd in a countdown before they flooded onto the field in search of the perfect spot to pitch their tents.
Among the excited attendees are Carmel and Phil Cole, who have been queuing since the early hours of the morning, and first-time festival-goer Meghan Wood, who can’t contain her excitement at finally attending Glastonbury. The lineup for this year’s festival is nothing short of spectacular, with headliners like Coldplay, Shania Twain, Dua Lipa, and SZA set to grace the Pyramid stage.
