The National Television Awards shortlist has been announced, and one of the standout contenders for best new drama is ITV’s “Mr Bates vs the Post Office.” The gripping series sheds light on the harrowing experiences of sub-postmasters who were wrongly accused of false accounting and theft due to faulty software.
Actor Toby Jones, who portrays Sir Alan Bates in the show, has also been recognized for his outstanding performance in the drama performance category. The series highlights the legal battle of more than 550 claimants who have taken legal action against the Post Office for the injustices they faced.
On the other hand, Netflix’s “Baby Reindeer” has also garnered attention for its dramatized account of harassment and stalking experienced by lead actor Richard Gadd. However, the show faced controversy when Fiona Harvey, alleged to have inspired a character in the series, took legal action against Netflix, claiming the story was inaccurate.
The NTAs, which are voted for online by viewers, will take place on September 11 at London’s O2 Arena, with comedian Joel Dommett set to host the ceremony for the third time. The awards will feature a range of categories, including drama, comedy, reality competition, and more, with popular shows like “The Crown,” “Strictly Come Dancing,” and “The Great British Bake Off” in the running for various awards.
