The bus stop faceoff between two high school students in Florida took a shocking turn when one of the student’s mothers decided to join the fight. The incident, which occurred in Daytona North, Florida, was sparked by a fallout from the summer months that spilled over into the new school year.
According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, the two teenage girls agreed to fight each other at the bus stop, with the altercation being captured on video. However, things escalated when one of the mothers, 34-year-old Kathryn Stephanopoulos, jumped into the fray and even had a child in a headlock at one point.
The video of the fight, which involved minors, was blurred by police. In the midst of the scuffle, Stephanopoulos’ daughter started a second fight with another child who tried to break up the initial fistfight. The situation took a dangerous turn when the juvenile swung a metal cup, hitting Stephanopoulos in the face.
Stephanopoulos was later arrested and taken to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility for her role in the fight. One juvenile was also arrested for aggravated battery, while misdemeanor charges against the other juvenile were forwarded to the state attorney’s office.
Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly condemned Stephanopoulos’ actions, stating, “Instead of deescalating the situation, we have a mother who joined in the fray, setting a bad example for her child and those at the bus stop.” He emphasized the importance of parents setting a positive example and not contributing to the problem.
Thankfully, no one was seriously injured in the altercation, but Stephanopoulos now faces serious charges for losing control of her temper. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining composure and setting a good example, especially in front of impressionable children.
