Bipartisan Panel Formed to Investigate Assassination Attempt on Former President Trump

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., have announced the formation of a bipartisan panel to investigate the recent assassination attempt against former President Trump. The panel, consisting of 13 members from both parties, will be led by Republican Rep. Mike Kelly of Pennsylvania as chairman and Democratic Rep. Jason Crow of Colorado as the ranking member.

The panel includes a mix of Republicans and Democrats, with members such as Reps. Mark Green, David Joyce, Laurel Lee, Michael Waltz, Clay Higgins, Pat Fallon, Lou Correa, Madeleine Dean, Chrissy Houlahan, Glenn Ivey, and Jared Moskowitz. Moskowitz, a former Director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management, expressed his gratitude for being appointed to the task force and emphasized the importance of learning from past failures to prevent future tragedies.

Rep. Houlahan also shared her thoughts on being appointed to the panel, calling it a “distinct and solemn honor” to investigate the attempted assassination of former President Trump. She highlighted the bipartisan nature of the task force and the commitment to conducting the investigation free from political influences.

However, one notable absence from the panel is Rep. Dan Goldman, D-N.Y., who faced concerns from Republicans due to a remark he made last year suggesting that Trump needed to be “eliminated.” Goldman’s spokesperson clarified that the congressman has a strong condemnation of all political violence and is focused on holding the Secret Service accountable for the security lapse that allowed the assassination attempt to occur.

The formation of this bipartisan panel underscores the seriousness of the assassination attempt and the commitment of both parties to uncover the truth and prevent similar incidents in the future. Stay tuned for updates on the investigation as the panel begins its work.
