Legendary singer and songwriter Martin Lee, a beloved member of the iconic pop group Brotherhood of Man, has passed away at the age of 77. The news of his death was confirmed by the PA News Agency and shared on the band’s official Facebook page, revealing that Lee had succumbed to heart failure after a brief illness.

Brotherhood of Man rose to fame in 1976 when they clinched victory at the Eurovision Song Contest with their smash hit “Save Your Kisses for Me.” The song became a global sensation, topping the charts in over 30 countries and solidifying the group’s status as one of the most successful acts in Eurovision history.

Lee, who joined Brotherhood of Man in 1972 as the lead vocalist and guitarist, played a pivotal role in the group’s success. Alongside his bandmates Nicky Stevens and Lee Sheriden, he co-wrote many of their biggest hits, including “Angelo” and “Figaro,” both of which reached number one in the UK.

The band’s manager, Tony Hiller, attributed the success of “Save Your Kisses for Me” to their extensive TV appearances across Europe in the lead-up to the Eurovision contest. The single went on to sell six million copies and remains a timeless classic to this day.

Following their Eurovision triumph, Brotherhood of Man continued to captivate audiences around the world with their infectious melodies and harmonious vocals. The group eventually retired from performing in 2020, leaving behind a legacy of unforgettable music and cherished memories.

Lee, who was born Martin Barnes in London, had a passion for music from a young age and had already made a name for himself with a solo single before joining Brotherhood of Man. His talent and dedication to his craft endeared him to fans worldwide, and his presence will be sorely missed by his bandmates, fans, and loved ones.

As the music world mourns the loss of a true legend, the legacy of Martin Lee and Brotherhood of Man will continue to live on through their timeless music and enduring impact on the industry. Rest in peace, Martin Lee.
