Renowned magician David Copperfield is facing serious allegations of sexual misconduct and inappropriate behavior by 16 women, some of whom were under 18 at the time of the alleged incidents. The Guardian newspaper reported that the accusations span from the late 1980s to 2014.
According to the report, three women claim that Copperfield drugged them before engaging in sexual activity without their consent. Additionally, four women alleged that the magician groped them or made them touch him in a sexual manner during live performances on stage.
One woman stated that she met Copperfield when she was 15 and he maintained contact with her through phone calls. When she turned 18, she claims they had consensual sex, but she believes she was groomed by the magician. Copperfield’s lawyers acknowledged the relationship but denied any grooming took place.
In response to the allegations, a representative for Copperfield called them “false and scurrilous” and stated that they are contrary to who Copperfield truly is. The magician’s legal team emphasized that the accusations are not in line with his character and that he has a history of supporting women in need.
This is not the first time Copperfield has faced accusations of inappropriate behavior, as in 2018 he denied historical allegations of sexual misconduct. Despite the controversy, Copperfield remains a prominent figure in the world of magic, having won numerous awards and holding multiple Guinness World Records. The magician has yet to respond publicly to the recent allegations, but his legal team is reportedly considering their next steps in light of the situation.
