The Getty House, the official residence of Mayor Karen Bass in Los Angeles, was the scene of a break-in early Sunday morning, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The intruder, who smashed a window to gain entry around 6:40 a.m., was taken into custody by the police while Mayor Bass and her family were inside the residence.
Details on the break-in are still limited, but Mayor Bass’s office confirmed that she and her family were unharmed during the incident. The suspect’s identity has not been disclosed, and the investigation is ongoing.
Located in the Windsor Square neighborhood of Central Los Angeles, the Getty House break-in comes at a time when the city has been making progress in reducing crime rates, as highlighted by Mayor Bass in her recent State of the City Address. Despite a decrease in homicides in 2023, there have been slight increases in property crimes and motor vehicle thefts.
This is not the first time Mayor Bass has been targeted by criminals. Before taking office, her personal home was burglarized, with thieves stealing two handguns. In recent years, other politicians have also been victims of break-ins and swatting attempts, including a violent incident at Nancy Pelosi’s home in San Francisco and a hoax call targeting Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene.
As the investigation into the Getty House break-in continues, the city of Los Angeles remains focused on addressing issues such as homelessness and crime, with Mayor Bass leading efforts to improve the safety and well-being of all residents.
