Lionel Richie Co-Hosts King’s Trust Global Gala in Manhattan
On Thursday evening, Casa Cipriani in downtown Manhattan was buzzing with excitement as Lionel Richie co-hosted the King’s Trust Global Gala, a fund-raiser for the organization started by Prince Charles in 1976 to help underserved youth globally.
The star-studded event drew more than 300 attendees, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Drew Barrymore, John Legend, Law Roach, and Kate Moss, and raised over $1.4 million. This collaboration between Richie and Edward Enninful, former editor-in-chief of British Vogue, marked the third year of the event.
“I grew up with the Trust helping members of my family and friends,” said Mr. Enninful, highlighting the personal connection to the cause.
The gala also coincided with King Charles’s official return to duties after revealing his battle with cancer. Though the monarch was not present, actor Dominic West, who portrayed him in “The Crown,” was in attendance to show support.
The evening featured a pun-filled speech by King Charles, referencing Richie’s hits like “Dancing on the Ceiling” and “All Night Long.” Dinner included a performance by John Legend of Richie’s song “Hello,” which received a standing ovation from the audience.
Overall, the event was a success, with guests enjoying the glamorous atmosphere and supporting a worthy cause. As Mr. Legend put it, “I just decided to do that 20 minutes ago,” reflecting the spontaneous and heartfelt nature of the evening.
