The resurgence of interest in the works of Tamara de Lempicka, the iconic Art Deco-era painter, has reached new heights with a major exhibition and sale at Sotheby’s in New York. Madonna’s early recognition of Lempicka’s talent has been validated as collectors like Barbra Streisand, Jack Nicholson, and Donna Karan have also shown a keen interest in her work.
The exhibition, titled “The World of Tamara: A Celebration of Lempicka and Art Deco,” features highly stylized and erotically charged portraits that have captivated art enthusiasts and fashion tribes alike. Lempicka’s self-determined persona and glamorous image have drawn comparisons to modern-day social media influencers, making her a timeless figure in the art world.
Coinciding with the exhibition is the Broadway opening of “Lempicka,” a biographical musical set to debut on April 14. This musical, along with the Sotheby’s exhibition, serves as a prelude to the first American retrospective of Lempicka’s work, scheduled to open this fall at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.
In a similar vein of luxury and sophistication, the Moore Furniture Building in Miami is undergoing a transformation into a hotel and private club. Owned by Miami developer Craig Robins, the historic building will soon house a new lobby restaurant named Elastika, inspired by the monumental sculpture by Zaha Hadid located in its atrium.
The Moore’s private club aims to attract a select group of global leaders, innovators, and tastemakers, with founding members including fashion designer Francisco Costa and model Karolina Kurkova. This upscale establishment is poised to become a premier destination in Miami’s Design District, offering a sophisticated and exclusive experience for its discerning members.
