Legendary coach Monte Kiffin, father of Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin, has passed away at the age of 84. Monte, known for his innovative Tampa 2 defensive scheme, had been working alongside his son as a player personnel analyst.
Throughout his nearly six-decade career, Kiffin coached at seven universities and with eight NFL teams. He was the defensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during their 2003 Super Bowl victory and is in the franchise’s Ring of Honor.
The Glazer family, owners of the Buccaneers, released a statement mourning Kiffin’s loss, describing him as kind, genuine, gracious, and always positive. Lane Kiffin posted a heartfelt tribute to his father on social media, calling him his hero.
Monte Kiffin leaves behind a lasting legacy in the world of football, and his impact will be felt for generations to come. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Kiffin family during this difficult time.
