Lana Del Rey Reveals Rejected James Bond Theme at Ivor Novello Awards
At Thursday’s Ivor Novello Awards, Lana Del Rey took home a special international award and also dropped a bombshell revelation about a rejected James Bond theme. The singer-songwriter disclosed that she had written a theme for the 2015 Bond film Spectre, only to have it rejected by producers.
Del Rey, known for hits like Video Games and 24, shared backstage at the awards ceremony in London that she had submitted a song for consideration for the Bond film, but it was ultimately recorded by Sam Smith for the movie’s soundtrack. Despite the rejection, Del Rey expressed her desire to still write a Bond theme in the future.
Pop star Raye, who won songwriter of the year at the ceremony, expressed shock at Del Rey’s revelation and praised her energy for a Bond theme. Other artists who have had Bond themes rejected include Johnny Cash, Blondie, and Muse.
Del Rey also discussed turning down a world tour offer to connect with fans in McCreary County and Kentucky, as well as the inspiration behind her Grammy-nominated album, Did You Know There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd. The album was largely written during jam sessions with her then-boyfriend, Mike Hermosa.
Despite the rejection of her Bond theme, Del Rey remains hopeful for another opportunity to contribute to the iconic franchise in the future.
