The Los Angeles Lakers have announced that the Kobe Bryant statue outside of the Crypto.com Arena will be corrected soon after multiple errors were found on it. The statue, which honors Bryant’s historic 81-point performance against the Toronto Raptors in January 2006, had misspellings of former NBA players Jose Calderon and Von Wafer in the box score portion. Additionally, the phrase “coach’s decision” was also misspelled on the statue.

The Lakers stated that they have been aware of the errors for a few weeks and are already working to get them corrected. Vanessa Bryant, Kobe’s widow, revealed that the statue is the first of three renderings that will stand outside the arena.

Kobe Bryant, who tragically passed away in a helicopter crash in January 2020, is one of the few Lakers legends to have a statue outside the arena. The team has honored other greats such as Magic Johnson, Jerry West, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O’Neal, and Elgin Baylor with statues as well.

Bryant, a 18-time All-Star, four-time NBA champion, and the 2008 NBA MVP, played his entire career with the Lakers. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
