Fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld’s luxurious Paris apartment, which he shared with his beloved cat Choupette, was recently sold at auction for a whopping 10 million euros. The 2,800-square-foot apartment, located on the Quai Voltaire, was a Bond-villain-like lair that reflected Lagerfeld’s impeccable taste and style.
The auction, held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Paris, attracted more than 50 attendees who witnessed a fierce bidding war between two parties. The bidding started at 5.3 million euros and quickly escalated until one bidder offered 10 million euros, securing the sale of the apartment.
Proceeds from the auction will go to Lagerfeld’s estate, which will be distributed among his seven heirs, including former model Baptiste Giabiconi and Chanel artistic director Virginie Viard. The buyer’s identity remains confidential.
Lagerfeld, known for his passion for collecting high-collared white shirts, books, and period décor, spent years redesigning and decorating the Quai Voltaire apartment. The space featured a mix of modern design pieces from the Galerie Kreo, creating a sleek and minimalist environment that reflected Lagerfeld’s preference for a neutral color palette.
The sale of Lagerfeld’s Paris apartment comes at a time of renewed interest in the fashion icon, with biographies and documentaries being released to celebrate his extraordinary life and legacy. The auction marks the end of an era for Lagerfeld’s iconic residence, leaving behind a legacy of impeccable style and sophistication.
