U.S. District Court Judge Larry Hicks, appointed by President George W. Bush in 2001, tragically killed in Nevada crash
U.S. District Court Judge Larry Hicks, a prominent figure in Nevada’s legal community, was killed in a tragic car crash outside the federal courthouse in downtown Reno, officials confirmed.
The 80-year-old judge, who served Nevada for over 53 years, was hit by a car at 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, Hicks later succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities stated that the driver involved in the crash stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
Hicks, who began his legal career as a prosecutor in 1968 and later served as the District Attorney of Washoe County, was appointed as a U.S. District Court Judge by President George W. Bush in 2001.
Known for his dedication to his family and community, Judge Hicks was remembered fondly by Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam, who expressed his condolences to Hicks’ family.
“Larry Hicks was a one of a kind man, revered in our community and, most importantly, beloved by his family,” Balaam said. “Judge Hicks’ legacy will forever be noted in Washoe County.”
