Eurovision Singer Joost Klein Cleared of Allegations, Expresses Frustration and Relief

Joost Klein, a favorite to win the Eurovision Song Contest, was disqualified just hours before the grand final due to an alleged altercation with a camerawoman. However, Swedish prosecutors have now dropped the investigation, stating that they could not prove Klein’s gesture was intended to cause fear.

In response to the news, Klein expressed both frustration and relief on Instagram. He welcomed the decision, stating, “There is no case against me because there never was a case.” However, he also voiced disappointment at the three-month delay in closing the investigation, calling the past few months “terrible.”

Klein hinted at commercial motivations behind his disqualification, suggesting that companies wanted to protect their interests. Despite the controversy, Dutch broadcaster Avrotros criticized the decision to remove Klein from the contest, calling it “disproportionate.”

The Eurovision Song Contest this year was marked by tension surrounding Israel’s participation, with protests and political messages woven into performances. Klein’s disqualification added to the drama, but with the investigation now closed, he has his sights set on Eurovision 2025.

While the European Broadcasting Union stands by their decision to expel Klein, the singer is looking towards the future with optimism.
