De Niro Con: A Celebration of Robert De Niro Through Tattoos and Trivia
Amy Cakes, a 32-year-old operations coordinator at the Tribeca Festival, made headlines on Friday as she added a new tattoo to her collection – a tribute to Robert De Niro. The ink was applied amid a celebration of all things De Niro at the inaugural De Niro Con, a three-day event honoring the legendary actor.
The convention, held at Spring Studios in Tribeca, drew over 1,000 fans who immersed themselves in displays of movie memorabilia, re-creations of iconic scenes from De Niro’s films, and a tattoo parlor offering replicas of the actor’s tattoos from “Cape Fear.” Participants could choose from five tattoos, including a panther and the phrase “Time the avenger,” with Cakes opting for a clown with a gun.
Attendees at De Niro Con could also partake in activities such as reciting lines from “Taxi Driver,” shadowboxing as Jake LaMotta in “Raging Bull,” and even taking mock polygraph exams reminiscent of a scene from “Meet the Parents.”
One highlight of the event was a trivia competition where participants tested their knowledge of De Niro’s life and career. Marisol Acevedo, a dedicated fan who runs an Instagram page dedicated to the actor, led her team to victory with her extensive knowledge of all things De Niro.
The convention also featured film screenings, panel discussions, and appearances by De Niro himself, as well as a showcase of personal memorabilia from the actor’s various roles over the years.
As the weekend came to a close, attendees reflected on their experiences at De Niro Con. Brandon Wright, a bartender who traveled from Massachusetts for the event, shared his excitement about getting a De Niro-themed tattoo and the overall immersive experience of the convention.
De Niro Con proved to be a unique and engaging celebration of one of Hollywood’s most iconic actors, leaving fans with lasting memories and a deeper appreciation for Robert De Niro’s legendary career.
