Johnny Marr dismisses The Smiths reunion using Nigel Farage image

Former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr has once again shut down any hopes of a reunion of his iconic band by using a picture of Reform UK leader Nigel Farage. Marr, known for his legendary work with The Smiths alongside frontman Morrissey, posted the image in response to a fan suggestion that the band could follow in the footsteps of Oasis and reunite.

The relationship between Marr and Morrissey has been strained for years, with Marr previously criticizing both Morrissey’s political views and his alignment with Farage. Marr’s decision to use Farage’s image as a response to reunion talk further solidifies the unlikelihood of The Smiths getting back together.

The songwriting partnership of Morrissey and Marr produced four albums that are considered classics in British guitar music history. Marr’s departure from the band in 1987 marked the end of an era, with reported tensions between the two musicians leading to the split.

Despite their successful solo careers, the rift between Marr and Morrissey has only grown wider over the years. Morrissey’s recent accusations of “hatred” and “complete ignorance” towards The Simpsons for a character based on him, as well as his open letter to Marr urging him to stop using his name for “clickbait”, highlight the ongoing animosity between the former bandmates.

Marr, who recently reunited with childhood friend Billy Duffy for a performance at a New Order show, has not made any further comments on the possibility of a Smiths reunion. With both Marr and Morrissey firmly entrenched in their own musical paths, it seems unlikely that fans will see The Smiths back together anytime soon.
