NASCAR driver Joey Logano’s day took a turn for the worse at the Shriners Children’s 500 at Phoenix Raceway when he was involved in a crash with John Hunter Nemechek. Logano, who started the race in 23rd position, ended up in the garage after the incident on Lap 206.
Nemechek made contact with Logano, causing the No. 22 Team Penske car to spin around and collect several other drivers in the process. Despite taking a few hits from other vehicles, Logano was able to walk away from the crash and get checked out in the ambulance.
After being released from the infield care center, Logano called out Nemechek for the incident. Nemechek claimed that Logano slowed down, but Logano refuted the claim, stating that Nemechek should have lifted when making the corners.
The race did not end well for Logano, as he finished in 34th place, one of four drivers who did not complete the race. This marks the third time this season that Logano has finished outside of the top 25.
Despite the rough start to the season, Logano and the rest of the Cup Series drivers are gearing up for the next race at Bristol. The spring race at Bristol will be back on concrete after being on dirt for the past few seasons. Logano will be looking to bounce back from his disappointing finish at Phoenix and improve his standings in the Cup Series.
