St. Louis Cardinals catcher Willson Contreras will miss six to eight weeks with a broken arm he suffered in a freak accident from a catcher’s interference.

In a game against the New York Mets, Contreras was hit by a bat on a follow-through swing by J.D. Martinez, resulting in a fracture in his left forearm. The incident occurred in the top of the second inning, causing Contreras to roll around in pain and eventually leave the game.

Contreras, who had been setting up closer to the batter to improve his defense, will now be sidelined for an extended period of time. Despite the setback, he remains positive and determined to support his team from the sidelines.

Martinez expressed remorse for the accident, acknowledging the severity of the impact. The Cardinals’ manager, Oliver Marmol, highlighted the risks involved in setting up closer to the batter for framing pitches.

The Mets went on to win the game 7-5, but the focus remains on Contreras’ recovery and the impact his absence will have on the team. Contreras, who is hitting .280 with six homers and 12 RBIs this season, is in the second year of a lucrative contract with the Cardinals.

The baseball community is rallying behind Contreras as he begins his road to recovery, with hopes for a swift and successful return to the field.
