Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels made his debut at Nationals Park on Sunday, but it wasn’t on the football field. The Heisman Trophy winner had the honor of throwing out the first pitch before the Washington Nationals took on the Atlanta Braves.
Standing tall at 6-foot-3, Daniels took the mound and wound up for his pitch. However, his throw didn’t quite hit the mark as it bounced towards the right of the catcher, nearly landing in the hands of the Commanders mascot Major Tuddy.
Despite the less-than-perfect pitch, Daniels’ performance on the baseball field is not what he will be judged on. The Commanders selected him with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 draft after an impressive college career at LSU, where he threw for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns in his final season.
Daniels has been getting acclimated to the team during organized team activities (OTAs) and is gearing up to take on the starting quarterback role in the upcoming season. Head coach Dan Quinn praised Daniels’ work ethic and competitive nature, highlighting his command and learning abilities.
With a tough season behind them, Washington fans are hopeful that Daniels can lead the team to success in the upcoming season. Stay tuned for more updates on Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders as they prepare for the 2024 season.
