Jack Black has made the difficult decision to cancel the rest of the Tenacious D world tour following a controversial comment made by his bandmate Kyle Gass during a performance in Sydney, Australia.
Gass, who was celebrating his 64th birthday on stage, responded to a question by saying, “Don’t miss Trump next time,” sparking outrage and backlash. In response, Black took to Instagram to express his shock and disappointment, stating that he does not condone hate speech or political violence in any form.
The fallout from Gass’s comment led to the postponement of the group’s upcoming gig in Newcastle, New South Wales. Gass issued an apology on Instagram, acknowledging his “severe lack of judgement” and expressing deep regret for the pain he caused.
The controversy caught the attention of United Australia senator Ralph Babet, who called for the band to be deported for their remarks. Babet condemned the call for political violence, describing it as “egregious, disgusting, filthy, evil, and not acceptable in any way, shape or form.”
The incident comes in the wake of a recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, where a gunman opened fire at a rally in Pennsylvania. The FBI has identified the shooter as Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old kitchen worker and registered Republican who was shot dead by a Secret Service sniper.
As Black and Gass navigate the fallout from the controversy, fans are left disappointed as the future of Tenacious D’s creative plans remain uncertain.
