ITV’s Joan drama shines spotlight on West Midlands film locations

Sophie Turner, best known for her role as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, has been spotted filming in various West Midlands locations for the new ITV drama series Joan. The show, based on the true story of Joan Hannington, a notorious jewellery thief, is set in 1980s London but has utilized locations across the West Midlands region.

Viewers in the area have been excited to recognize familiar spots such as Birmingham’s Piccadilly Arcade and Jewellery Quarter, as well as Walsall, Coventry, and Leamington Spa. Kavita Masih, who works on Bridge Street in Walsall, shared her excitement about seeing filming activity in the area, noting the vintage cars and period outfits used for the show.

Claire Ginnever, another local worker, mentioned the buzz created by the filming crews in Walsall, stating that it’s putting the town on the map. Despite the series portraying Walsall as London, some residents like Ginnever find it shocking, questioning why London is seen as superior.

Geoff Lam, who works at Faculty Coffee in the Piccadilly Arcade in Birmingham, shared his experience of crews filming in the area. He mentioned the positive impact of filming on local businesses, driving traffic into Birmingham and potentially attracting more filmmakers to the area.

As the series continues to gain attention, both locals and fans of Sophie Turner eagerly anticipate seeing how the West Midlands locations play a role in the captivating story of Joan.
