Korean Air to Stop Serving Instant Noodles on Flights Due to Safety Concerns

If you’re a fan of the instant noodles served on Korean Air flights, you might soon be disappointed. The airline has announced that starting from 15 August, they will no longer be serving the popular snack to economy class passengers. The reason? Safety concerns.

According to the carrier, the increased risk of turbulence, narrow aisles, and passengers sitting closely together could lead to “burn incidents” if the noodles were to spill. This decision, however, does not affect business and first class passengers, who will still be able to enjoy the treat.

The instant noodles have long been a favorite among passengers and something that Korean Air is known for. Many appreciate the fact that they are available for free on request. However, the airline stated that since 2019, the number of turbulence incidents on their flights has doubled, prompting the need for this change.

In economy class, several cups of noodles are typically served at once, increasing the risk of spills and burns. On the other hand, in business and first class, the snacks are brought individually to passengers, reducing the likelihood of accidents during turbulence.

The noodles will be replaced with sandwiches, corn dogs, pizza, and “Hot Pockets” – crusty turnovers filled with cheese, meat, and vegetables. This decision has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some expressing relief and others questioning why other hot items like coffee and tea are still being served.

Korean Air stated that they will continue to prioritize safety while seeking to enhance customer convenience and satisfaction. This move comes after Singapore Airlines announced earlier this year that they would stop serving hot drinks and meals during turbulence as a precautionary measure.

With turbulence becoming more unpredictable and severe due to climate change, airlines are taking steps to ensure the safety of their passengers. While the instant noodles may be missed by some, the decision ultimately aims to prevent accidents and ensure a smooth and enjoyable flight experience for all.
