A California inmate serving time for murder sparked chaos in a prison brawl after attempting to stab a sheriff’s deputy and fellow inmate with a makeshift knife. The violent incident, caught on video at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, unfolded around 2:45 p.m., according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
Christopher Lommie Jackson, 25, armed himself with a jail-made metal knife and tried to stab another inmate before turning his weapon on a deputy. Deputies rushed to intervene, with Jackson attempting to knock one deputy to the ground before being subdued in a corridor.
The attacked deputy sustained moderate injuries to his face but was treated and released from a local hospital. Sheriff Shannon Dicus condemned the violent behavior, emphasizing the serious threat it poses to staff and inmates. Jackson, who has a history of violent offenses in San Bernardino County, will face maximum legal consequences for his actions.
This incident comes on the heels of a South Carolina corrections officer being hospitalized after being stabbed in the head by an inmate at the Broad River Correctional Institute in Columbia. The string of violent attacks highlights the dangers faced by those working in correctional facilities.
