IndyCar driver Nolan Siegel had a heart-stopping moment during Indianapolis 500 practice on Friday afternoon. The 19-year-old rookie driver lost control of his vehicle, hitting the wall and catching air as he spun out of Turn 2. His car even turned on its side for a few yards, nearly landing completely upside down.
Fortunately, Siegel emerged from the incident unscathed after being checked out at the infield care center. Despite his relief, he expressed disappointment in himself, telling reporters, “Feel bad for the team. It’s been working so hard for so long for this. Just kind of threw it away. Not at all happy about that one.”
Siegel took to Instagram to further share his feelings, writing, “Not what we wanted or needed today. Thanks for all the messages, we’ll be back in the morning.”
As teams gear up for the upcoming Indianapolis 500, NASCAR star Kyle Larson is looking to make history by competing in both the Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Larson had a strong showing in practice, posting the second-fastest lap for his McLaren vehicle at 234.271 mph.
With qualifying set for Saturday, all eyes are on the 108th running of the Indianapolis 500 next weekend. Last season’s winner, Josef Newgarden, will look to defend his title against tough competition, including Alex Palou, who secured the pole position.
