The Oslo Freedom Forum (OFF) is gearing up for its 16th edition, set to take place in Oslo from June 3-5. Organized by the Human Rights Foundation (HRF), the conference will bring together a diverse group of individuals including humanitarians, artists, tech entrepreneurs, and world leaders to shed light on global human rights issues and discuss ways to promote freedom in the face of technological and political oppression.
Among the notable speakers scheduled to appear at the event are exiled Nicaraguan journalist Carlos Chamorro, Trauma Research Foundation founder Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, and Jack Dorsey, CEO and co-founder of Block. The conference will feature high-level discussions on advocating for human freedom and provide workshop sessions to equip activists with tools for social liberation.
One of the key topics of discussion at the conference will be authoritarianism in the Global South, examining both illiberal governmental regimes and the role of global markets in perpetuating exploitative practices such as forced labor and resource extraction.
In a statement to Bitcoin Magazine, Christian Keroles, HRF Director of Financial Freedom, highlighted the importance of censorship-resistant money in supporting liberty. The OFF Financial Freedom track, scheduled for June 5th, will delve into the role of open-source software, particularly Bitcoin, in empowering dissidents to resist authoritarian regimes that seek to stifle opposition.
The Financial Freedom Track will feature prominent figures in the Bitcoin ecosystem, including Jack Dorsey, CEO of Block, and Abubakar Nur Khalil, CEO of Recursive Capital. The event will also address the growing concerns around financial privacy, especially in light of recent crackdowns on Bitcoin privacy tools.
The arrest of the founders of the privacy-focused Samourai Wallet and Whirlpool coinjoin service has raised alarms about the increasing surveillance of cryptocurrency transactions. The FBI’s warning against the use of non-KYC crypto money transmitting services signals a troubling trend towards greater financial surveillance.
As the Oslo Freedom Forum approaches, the focus on financial privacy and digital freedom has never been more critical. Stay tuned for the exclusive livestream of the Financial Freedom Track on Bitcoin Magazine’s platforms and subscribe to their Daily Newsletter for updates on the event.
