The Museum of Modern Art’s Party in the Garden was a night to remember, as nearly 1,500 artists, curators, art patrons, and supporters gathered for the museum’s biggest annual fund-raising event. While last year’s event was overshadowed by wildfire smoke from Canada, this year’s party was met with a mildly humid day in the high 70s.
The event raised over $5.5 million to fund MoMA’s general operations and learning and engagement programs. Honored guests included artist Joan Jonas, digital artist Refik Anadol, photographer and activist LaToya Ruby Frazier, and former president of the museum’s board of trustees, Ronnie Heyman.
For Mr. Anadol, who described his road to an exhibit at the museum as “magic,” and Ms. Frazier, being recognized was a confirmation that their work is much bigger than themselves. The night was filled with speeches, family-style dishes, and mingling among influential figures in the art world.
As the dinner portion of the evening came to a close, guests made their way to the after-party in the outdoor sculpture garden. The younger crowd danced to the music of pop artist Fletcher, while a group of climate activists staged a sit-in, chanting for change.
Despite the clash of worlds on the dance floor, the night was a celebration of art, community, and support for MoMA’s mission. The Party in the Garden continues to evolve and attract a diverse group of attendees, ensuring its place as a highlight of the New York City art scene.
