Hiker Found Dead at Bottom of Grand Canyon After Camping Overnight, Officials Say

A tragic incident occurred at the Grand Canyon as a 41-year-old male hiker was found dead after camping overnight at the bottom of the canyon. The hiker, who has not been publicly identified, was discovered “unresponsive” along the Bright Angel Trail just east of the Pipe Creek River Resthouse on Sunday morning, according to the National Park Service (NPS).

Despite attempts by bystanders and park officials to resuscitate the individual, they were unsuccessful. The hiker was hiking out of the canyon from an overnight stay at the Bright Angel Campground near Phantom Ranch.

An investigation into the incident is currently underway by the NPS in coordination with the Coconino County Medical Examiner.

This tragic event comes after reports of dozens of hikers falling violently ill with a mysterious sickness while visiting Havasupai Falls near Grand Canyon National Park. Some visitors were too sick to hike back out of the canyon and had to be airlifted out via helicopter.

One visitor, Maylin Griffiths, shared her harrowing experience of falling ill during her trip to celebrate her 40th birthday at the falls. She described experiencing severe gastrointestinal issues and a high fever, requiring medical attention in the canyon.

The Havasupai Tribe Tourism Office reassured the public that the water sources on the reservation are regularly tested and deemed safe for human consumption.

The circumstances surrounding the hiker’s death and the mysterious illness affecting visitors at the Grand Canyon continue to raise questions and concerns. Fox News will provide updates on this developing story.
