Hezbollah Confirms Senior Commander Killed in Israeli Air Strike
Hezbollah, the Iran-backed militant group, has confirmed the death of one of its senior military commanders, Fuad Shukr, in an Israeli air strike in Beirut, Lebanon. The group circulated a picture confirming Shukr’s death, stating that his body was found in the rubble of a building that was hit during the attack.
The Israeli military had targeted Shukr in what they called an “intelligence-based elimination” in response to a rocket attack in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. Hezbollah denied any involvement in the rocket attack that killed 12 people, including two children.
Shukr, a key military adviser to Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, was believed to be in his early sixties. The strike took place in a densely populated area of Beirut, where four other people, including two children, were also killed.
Lebanon’s Prime Minister condemned the attack as a “criminal act,” and tensions between Israel and Hezbollah are expected to escalate further. In the past, Hezbollah has responded to the killings of its senior members by launching rocket attacks into Israel.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged the challenging days ahead and stated that Israel is prepared for any scenario. The region is on high alert as fears of a regional war loom, with international calls for all sides to show restraint.
The situation remains fluid, and more details are expected to emerge. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
