Heart Radio Breakfast co-host Jamie Theakston has bravely announced that he has been diagnosed with stage one laryngeal cancer. The 53-year-old revealed that he recently underwent an operation to remove a lesion from his vocal cords and that the prognosis is “very positive.”

In a statement, Theakston said, “So – I have cancer – but cancer doesn’t have me. The prognosis is very positive and I’m hoping to be back with you in October.” He expressed his gratitude to his co-hosts, Jason King and Amanda Holden, as well as the entire Global family for their unwavering support.

Heart Radio posted a supportive message on Instagram, referring to Theakston as “our beloved Jamie.” Holden assured listeners that despite the diagnosis, it is not all bad news, and King added that Theakston has an amazing team working to ensure he gets better soon.

Theakston, who rose to fame as a TV presenter in the 1990s, has been a staple on Heart Radio’s breakfast show since 2005. His co-hosts are determined to hold the fort in his absence and continue to deliver a great show in his honor.

Laryngeal cancer is a type of cancer that affects the voice box and is more common in people over the age of 60, particularly men. The main treatments for laryngeal cancer include radiotherapy, surgery, chemotherapy, and targeted cancer medicines.

Symptoms of laryngeal cancer include changes in voice, difficulty swallowing, neck swelling, persistent cough, sore throat, and more. The NHS website provides further information on the condition.

Despite the challenging news, Theakston remains optimistic and determined to overcome this hurdle. The entire Heart Radio family and listeners are sending their best wishes for his speedy recovery and return to the airwaves.
