Texas Homeowner Fends Off Machete-Wielding Intruder in Terrifying Encounter

A homeowner in Liberty Hill, Texas, took matters into his own hands when a machete-wielding man attempted to break into his home. Darryl Stevens’ quick thinking and bravery were captured on home surveillance camera as he defended his family from the intruder.

Stevens recounted the harrowing experience to FOX 7, stating that his immediate reaction was to lock up his home and grab his 9mm handgun to confront the suspect, later identified as 43-year-old Jerry Escamilla. The video footage shows Escamilla climbing a fence and approaching the family’s home, only to be met with Stevens’ firearm.

“I told him he’s got to leave, or he’s going to lose his life, you know?” Stevens said. Fortunately, Escamilla dropped the machete and retreated, allowing Stevens’ wife to call 911 and local police to arrest the suspect on charges of criminal trespassing and failure to identify.

Stevens emphasized the importance of protecting his family and plans to increase security measures at their home, turning it into what he described as “Fort Knox.” The incident has left the family feeling violated and determined to ensure their safety in the future.

The Stand Your Ground law in Texas allows gun owners to use lethal force to defend themselves against threats, without the obligation to retreat first. Stevens’ actions exemplify the importance of being prepared to protect loved ones in unexpected situations.
