Second Amendment Group Vows to Sue NYPD to Defend Trump’s Concealed Carry License

A Second Amendment group, the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF), has declared its intention to sue the New York Police Department in order to protect former President Donald Trump’s concealed carry license. This comes after Trump’s felony conviction in the hush money trial.

The SAF’s founder and Executive Vice President, Alan M. Gottlieb, stated in a press release that the group is prepared to challenge the law to defend Trump’s ownership of firearms. Despite New York state law prohibiting convicted felons from having firearm permits, SAF is willing to take on the court system to protect Trump’s gun rights.

The group’s stance is rooted in the belief that individuals should not lose their gun rights due to convictions of non-violent crimes. Trump’s concealed carry license was initially revoked in April 2023 when he was indicted for the hush money trial.

Gottlieb emphasized that Trump, who has no history of violent crime, should not lose his Second Amendment rights. He pointed to the Supreme Court’s Bruen ruling, which requires gun laws to have a historical connection to regulations at the time of the Constitution’s drafting, as justification for defending Trump’s gun rights.

The potential lawsuit against the NYPD highlights the need for reform in gun rights legislation, according to Gottlieb. The SAF has a track record of litigating challenges to restore gun rights for individuals convicted of non-violent crimes, with 60 cases currently in progress.

If the SAF proceeds with a lawsuit against the NYPD, it will not be their first legal battle in defense of gun rights. The foundation’s motto, “Winning Gun Rights One Lawsuit at a Time,” underscores their commitment to protecting and preserving Second Amendment rights, including those of Donald Trump.

As the situation unfolds, the SAF remains steadfast in its mission to uphold the Second Amendment and ensure that individuals are not unjustly stripped of their gun rights.
