Title: Security guard jailed for plotting to abduct, rape, and murder TV presenter Holly Willoughby
In a shocking case that has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, security guard Gavin Plumb has been sentenced to a minimum of 16 years in prison for plotting to abduct, rape, and murder television presenter Holly Willoughby.
Plumb, 37, from Harlow, Essex, was caught after unknowingly disclosing his plans to an undercover police officer operating in an online chatroom called “Abduct Lovers.” His “ultimate fantasy” was to use tools he had assembled to perpetrate highly sexualized violence against the former This Morning host.
During the trial at Chelmsford Crown Court, Mr. Justice Murray described some of the plans Plumb discussed as “particularly sadistic, brutal, and degrading.” The judge emphasized that the offenses have had “life-changing consequences” on Ms. Willoughby, both privately and professionally.
Plumb, who had previous convictions for attempted kidnap, stood emotionless in the dock as he was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum tariff of 16 years before he becomes eligible for parole. Despite denying soliciting murder and inciting kidnap and rape, he was found guilty following an eight-day trial.
The court heard that Plumb had developed an obsession with Ms. Willoughby that spanned more than 10 years. He had detailed plans to raid her home, take her prisoner, and subject her to horrific acts of violence. Plumb’s messages were described as “horrifying, shocking, and graphic in detail” by Mr. Justice Murray.
Detective Chief Inspector Greg Wood of Essex Police described Plumb as a “calculated, violent, sexual predator” who has spent his adult life inflicting harm on women. Plumb’s previous convictions for attempted kidnap and false imprisonment were also brought up during the trial.
Despite maintaining during his trial that his plot was “just online chat” borne out of pure fantasy, Plumb’s actions have had far-reaching consequences. Ms. Willoughby ended her 14-year stint on This Morning after the offenses came to light, and the shock and fear caused by Plumb’s actions have been described as impossible to convey.
As Plumb begins his sentence, the case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of online forums and the real-world consequences of violent fantasies.
