California Senate candidate Steve Garvey has accused Rep. Adam Schiff of “selfish desperation” after Schiff called on President Biden to drop out of the 2024 race. Garvey, a Republican vying for Dianne Feinstein’s seat, pointed out that Schiff’s sudden change of heart came after Garvey’s campaign outraised Schiff’s by $1.2 million.
In a statement to Fox News Digital, Schiff expressed concerns about Biden’s ability to defeat Donald Trump in the upcoming election, prompting Garvey to question why Schiff did not call on Biden to resign if he believes he cannot be an effective candidate.
Garvey, a former professional baseball player, highlighted the significance of his fundraising success, noting that this is the first time in 14 years a Republican statewide candidate in California has surpassed a Democratic candidate in fundraising.
Despite Schiff’s call for Biden to step aside, he praised the president’s accomplishments but emphasized the need to defeat Trump. Schiff’s announcement makes him the 20th congressional Democrat to urge Biden to exit the race, with a total of 35 Democrats from the House and Senate calling on Biden to drop out.
The race between Garvey and Schiff is considered “Solid Democratic” by political analysts, but Garvey remains determined to challenge Schiff in the upcoming election on Nov. 5.
