A horrific stabbing rampage in a residential neighborhood in Northern Illinois left four people dead and at least five others wounded on Wednesday afternoon. The attack, which included a home invasion and multiple crime scenes, shocked the community of Rockford, located about 80 miles northwest of Chicago.
Police Chief Carla Redd confirmed that a 22-year-old suspect had been taken into custody, but the motive behind the brutal attack remains unclear. Three victims were killed at the scene, while a fourth died at a hospital. Among the deceased were a 15-year-old girl, a 63-year-old woman, and two men aged 49 and 22.
One of the injured victims was a woman who had been running away from the suspect after a home invasion. She and another person who tried to help her suffered stab wounds, according to Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana.
