Dr. Stanley Goldfarb, chairman of Do No Harm, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting back against “radical progressive ideology” in the healthcare industry, believes that diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in healthcare are “quite dangerous.” According to Goldfarb, DEI in healthcare leads to patients being treated differently based on their appearance, rather than as individuals with their own unique health concerns.
Goldfarb, a former associate dean of curriculum at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine, is concerned about the impact of DEI on medical school campuses and in doctor’s offices across the country. He believes that DEI compromises patient care, creates divisiveness, and undermines the quality of healthcare.
Furthermore, Goldfarb is alarmed by the impact of DEI on the recruitment and promotion of faculty at medical schools. He argues that while diversity is important, it should not come at the expense of quality. Goldfarb testified at a House Committee on Education & the Workforce hearing, advocating for admissions policies in medical schools to prioritize academic achievement over diversity.
Do No Harm aims to bring about change in the healthcare industry by advocating for merit-based admissions policies and pushing back against what Goldfarb sees as the harmful effects of DEI. Goldfarb believes that the public deserves the best clinicians, and that can only be achieved by prioritizing merit over diversity in medical school admissions.
