Former Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge in Manhattan Criminal Court on Monday, marking a significant development in the ongoing legal battles surrounding former President Trump and his business empire.
Weisselberg surrendered himself to authorities Monday morning and admitted to perjury in connection to Trump’s civil fraud trial. As part of a plea agreement, he is expected to be sentenced to 5 months in jail, with his formal sentencing date scheduled for April 10.
The former CFO is among several top executives at the Trump Organization who were recently barred from operating their business in New York for a range of two to three years. This ruling came from Judge Aurthur Engoron, who also prohibited Trump and his children from running the business.
Despite the setback, a New York Appeals Court allowed Trump and his sons to maintain temporary control of the company while they appeal Engoron’s decision. Throughout the legal proceedings, Trump has dismissed the case as a “witch hunt” and accused the judge and New York Attorney General Letitia James of political bias.
Weisselberg’s guilty plea adds another layer of complexity to the legal challenges facing the former president and his business associates. The ongoing legal battles continue to draw national attention and scrutiny as the Trump Organization faces significant legal and financial repercussions.
