For the first time since the outbreak, Dubai Airport is completely functioning.

The closure of sections as the Covid-19 problem took hold coincides with an increase in infections in the United Arab Emirates due to worries about the new Omicron variety.

Officials stated Monday that Dubai airport, one of the world’s busiest travel hubs, is fully functioning for the first time since the coronavirus outbreak began in March 2020.

The closure of sections as the Covid-19 problem took hold coincides with an increase in infections in the United Arab Emirates due to worries about the new Omicron variety.

“Following the completion of the last phase, the airport is fully operational, with all terminals, concourses, lounges, restaurants, and retail shops now open,” the UAE’s official WAM news agency said in a statement.

At the end of the year, travel through Dubai surges as foreigners, who make up the bulk of the emirate’s population, return home for the holidays, while visitors arrive to celebrate the New Year.

Dubai International Airport had a 70% decline in traffic last year, from over 86 million passengers in 2019 to 25.9 million in 2020.

10.6 million travelers came through the airport in the first half of this year, down 41% from pre-pandemic levels.

Dubai’s economy is based on tourism, which attracted 16.7 million tourists in 2019.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE), which consists of seven emirates, including Dubai, has launched a thorough immunization program for its approximately 10 million residents.

However, coronavirus infection rates are rising again, with 285 cases reported in the UAE on Sunday, up from 92 the week before.

With more than seven million visitors since it started on October 1, Dubai is depending on the six-month Expo 2020 trade exhibition to improve the economy.
