Florida Inmate Fakes Fall Injury to Escape, Gets Dragged by K-9 in Dramatic Capture
A Florida inmate’s attempt to escape from authorities took a wild turn when he was found hiding in a wooded area by a gas station in Flagler County. Anthony Romine, 29, had faked a fall injury in an effort to flee, but was ultimately tracked down by a Flagler County Sheriff’s K-9 team.
After seven hours on the run, Romine was discovered hiding underneath foliage and underbrush. Video footage of the arrest shows the K-9 dragging Romine, who can be heard screaming in pain as deputies warn him to stop biting the dog.
Romine, who was initially arrested on July 3 on multiple charges, including petty theft and counterfeiting, had claimed he fell before being taken to the hospital for treatment. However, investigators later determined that he had faked his injury in an attempt to escape and return to his home state of Ohio.
Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly commended his team for capturing Romine and praised the community for their assistance in locating the escaped inmate. Romine now faces additional charges, including felony escape and battery on a law enforcement officer without violence.
An investigation will be conducted to determine how Romine managed to escape in the first place, as authorities work to prevent similar incidents in the future.
