A horrifying murder-suicide on New York’s Long Island left five people dead, shocking the quiet neighborhood of Syosset. The tragic incident reportedly occurred just before a family was set to meet with a realtor to sell a recently deceased woman’s home.
Nassau County police responded to the home on Wyoming Court in Syosset around noon on Sunday, where they discovered the gunman dead outside from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Inside the home, they found four more victims, whose identities have not yet been released.
Mary Macaluso, a local realtor, was scheduled to meet with the family to discuss selling the home after the recent passing of its owner and matriarch, Theresa Martha DeLucia, 95. The family had gathered for her funeral, and one of the siblings had requested the meeting with Macaluso while other relatives were in town from Florida.
Neighbors described the alleged gunman as a man in his 60s who had recently lost his mother, who was in her 90s. The quiet neighborhood was left in shock by the tragic events, with residents expressing disbelief at the heartbreaking incident.
The home, valued at nearly $900,000 according to Zillow, had not yet been listed for sale. Nearby homes in the affluent neighborhood have sold for close to $1 million, highlighting the upscale nature of the area.
The community is reeling from the devastating loss, as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the murder-suicide.
