In a heartbreaking turn of events, newborn twins were tragically killed in Gaza during an Israeli air strike while their father was away registering their birth certificates. Mohammed Abu al-Qumsan returned to his home in Deir al Balah to devastating news – his four-day-old twins, Asser and Ayssel, along with his wife and the twins’ grandmother, had been killed in the bombing.
“I don’t know what happened,” al-Qumsan said. “I am told it was a shell that hit the house.” The family had followed orders to evacuate Gaza City earlier in the conflict, seeking shelter in a central part of the strip as instructed by the Israeli army.
The Israeli military has been contacted for comment on the strike, but has yet to respond. Israel maintains that it aims to avoid civilian casualties and attributes such tragedies to Hamas operating in densely populated areas, using civilian buildings as cover.
This devastating incident is just one of many in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Gaza. The Hamas-run health ministry reports that 115 infants have been born and killed during the war. The violence has escalated in recent weeks, with multiple attacks on civilian shelters and buildings.
The international community continues to call for an end to the violence and a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The toll on innocent civilians, like the al-Qumsan family, serves as a stark reminder of the human cost of war.
