Ali Bastian, known for her role in Hollyoaks, has bravely shared her battle with breast cancer. The 42-year-old actor revealed that she was diagnosed with stage two cancer after discovering a lump while breastfeeding her daughter.
In an interview with OK! Magazine, Bastian expressed her shock at the diagnosis, saying, “It was a total shock. I have mornings when I wake up and I’ve forgotten… and then suddenly I remember. I’m still trying to process it.”
Initially, Bastian thought she had a blocked duct, but after a course of antibiotics didn’t solve the issue, she went to a breast clinic where she received the devastating news.
The actor, who currently resides in Ireland with her husband and two young children, is undergoing chemotherapy and will also undergo a single mastectomy and radiotherapy as part of her treatment plan.
Despite the challenges she faces, Bastian remains optimistic and determined to overcome this hurdle. She has sought support from a psychologist specializing in oncology and has shared an age-appropriate version of her diagnosis with her daughter.
In addition to focusing on her recovery, Bastian also expressed her desire to return to acting, citing a longing to be back on set and do what she loves.
As a reminder to others, the first noticeable symptom of breast cancer is often a lump or an area of thickened tissue. It’s important to be vigilant and seek medical attention if any changes are noticed in the breasts. Remember, early detection can save lives.
Our thoughts are with Ali Bastian as she navigates this difficult journey, and we applaud her bravery in sharing her story.
