Eminem Scores 11th Number One Single with Houdini
Eminem has once again proven his dominance in the music industry by claiming his 11th number one single in the official charts with his track Houdini. The song comes from his latest album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), marking his first chart-topping hit since Godzilla in 2020.
The Detroit artist, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, is best known for his collaborations in recent years, but Houdini is his first solo number one single in 19 years. The track has also achieved the biggest opening week for a song since Dave and Central Cee’s hit Sprinter, which was released last year.
Eminem’s new album has sparked debate as he announces his goodbye to his alter-ego, Slim Shady. In a surprise announcement in April, he teased the album with a mock murder news report featuring cameos from long-time collaborators Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and 50 Cent.
Houdini has knocked Sabrina Carpenter’s Espresso off the top spot and has drawn Eminem level with Calvin Harris on the list of most number one singles in the UK, with 11.
In other chart news, Central Cee and Lil Baby’s BAND4BAND debuted at number 3, while singer-songwriter Myles Smith reached new heights with his track Stargazing at number eight. The Luton-based singer expressed his joy at seeing Stargazing resonate with so many people.
Meanwhile, Taylor Swift remains at the top of the album charts with The Tortured Poets Department, while Billie Eilish climbed to second place with Hit Me Hard and Soft. Becky Hill also made a strong debut at number three with her album Believe Me Now, her best performing album to date.
K-pop group ATEEZ also achieved chart success with their third top 10 album, Golden Hour: Part 1. The South Korean group, made up of eight members, has set a record-breaking achievement by securing three top 10 albums in one year.
