Ed Sheeran Surprises Fans by Signing Autographs in Hot Sauce at Supermarket
Fans of Ed Sheeran were left in shock after the Grammy award-winning star made a surprise appearance at a Sainsbury’s supermarket in Hertfordshire on Tuesday. But what really caught everyone off guard was how he signed autographs – in hot sauce.
Sheeran was promoting his hot sauce brand, Tingly Ted’s, which is sold at the supermarket chain. Fans who flocked to the store were given the opportunity to have their food items signed by the singer, including a block of cheese and broccoli.
The pop-up event was announced by Sheeran on social media and his fan email newsletter, giving fans just an hour’s notice to make their way to the supermarket. One fan, Harry Barnes, shared his experience with BBC Three Counties Radio, revealing that only a few fans were initially waiting at the van in the car park. However, once word spread that Sheeran was there, hundreds rushed to get their items signed.
“I’m a massive Ed Sheeran fan,” Barnes said. “The only problem was – I was in a Justin Timberlake t-shirt.” Despite not having the ideal item for Sheeran to sign, Barnes ended up getting his block of cheese autographed with the hot sauce.
Other fans left the supermarket with unique signed items such as lettuce, broccoli, bread loaves, and even a vinyl record. One particularly interesting item, a roll of paper towels supposedly signed by Sheeran, has already been listed online for £1,000.
In addition to signing autographs, Sheeran also treated fans to free slices of pizza to try out the hot sauce. The singer expressed his excitement about surprising shoppers at the supermarket, while the store manager, Satwinder Hayre, was thrilled by Sheeran’s visit, saying it “certainly gave our customers shivers!”
While the event may have been a one-time surprise, fans can still purchase Sheeran’s hot sauce and other food items at Sainsbury’s, as well as explore other supermarkets for their cheese or flower needs.
