Duke Men’s Basketball Advances to Elite Eight After Outlasting Houston in Sweet 16
Duke men’s basketball is back in the Elite Eight after a hard-fought 54-51 win over Houston in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. The Blue Devils managed to pull away in the second half despite a tough defensive battle from Houston.
The game took a turn when Houston’s All-American guard Jamal Shead went down with a foot injury in the first half, forcing him to sit out for the rest of the game. Despite the setback, Duke’s Kyle Filipowski and Jeremy Roach stepped up to lead the charge, with Filipowski scoring 16 points and grabbing nine rebounds, and Roach adding 14 crucial points in the second half.
Head coach Jon Scheyer praised his team’s performance, emphasizing the toughness they displayed on the court. Duke will now face ACC rival North Carolina State in the next round for a chance to advance to the Final Four.
